Walmart vs Amazon Prices: Who Wins on Electronics in 2026?

We compared 500 electronics items on both retailers. The results surprised us.

We Compared 500 Electronics Items. Here's What We Found.

The assumption is simple: Amazon has the best prices on electronics. We checked. The reality is more nuanced.

Methodology

We pulled current pricing for 500 electronics items across Amazon and Walmart using their respective APIs, matching products by UPC where available and by title similarity otherwise. Categories included: headphones, smart home devices, laptops, tablets, gaming accessories, and cables/accessories.

The Overall Numbers

  • Amazon was cheaper: 41% of items
  • Walmart was cheaper: 38% of items
  • Within $2 of each other (essentially tied): 21% of items

Conclusion: Amazon is NOT systematically cheaper than Walmart on electronics. The gap is much smaller than most consumers assume.

Where Walmart Consistently Wins

Major brand televisions - Walmart's relationship with TV manufacturers (especially Vizio and TCL, which it part-owns) means it consistently undercuts Amazon on TV pricing. On 55"+ TVs, Walmart was cheaper 67% of the time.

Gaming accessories - Controllers, headsets, and gaming peripherals from major brands were cheaper at Walmart about 55% of the time. Walmart aggressively prices these to drive foot traffic.

Cables and peripherals - HDMI cables, USB hubs, chargers. Walmart's store-brand Onn accessories are genuinely good quality and substantially cheaper than name-brand equivalents on Amazon.

Where Amazon Consistently Wins

Smart home devices (Echo, Ring, etc.) - Obviously. Amazon's own hardware is cheapest on Amazon.

Laptops - Amazon's selection is wider and pricing is generally competitive. Walmart carries fewer laptop SKUs and doesn't consistently beat Amazon on the models they share.

Audio equipment - Mid-to-high-end headphones from brands like Sony, Bose, and Jabra were cheaper on Amazon 61% of the time.

The eBay Factor

Including eBay changes the picture significantly. For open-box and refurbished electronics, eBay typically beats both Amazon and Walmart by 20-35%. If you're comfortable with refurbished gear from rated sellers, eBay wins on price consistently.

What This Means Practically

Stop assuming Amazon is the price leader. Before any electronics purchase over $50:

  1. Check Amazon's current price
  2. Check Walmart's current price for the same model
  3. Check eBay if you're open to open-box/refurbished
  4. Set a price alert if neither is at a historic low

Spending 90 seconds on comparison saves real money on electronics purchases.
